Senario:Australian Govt tries to pass a bill to interfere parents of the out-of-control kids. That act would force the parents to join a special class. That new law would cost 30 million Australian dollars. The Prime minister John Howard oppose it.
My Point Of View:The Government Should not Interfere the Parents
Recently there is a sensational controversy in the parliament caused by Labour Leader Mr Latham’s a plan that parents of delinquent children should be forced to attend a special class and a funding values $30 million on that. John Howard opposes it. I believe the government should not interfere the parents!
Parents, especially the working parents would be frustrated at this new law! Parents would be attached stigma. They will be forever labelled as failure and their children as the offspring of a bad upbringing. And where does it start, or end? We know that in Australia, there are so many parents worked conscientiously everyday to afford their children’s expenditure. Sometimes it’s inevitable for them have not enough time to care about their children. Now a dictatorial new law forces the hardworking parents to attend a special class after their heavy work and always worry about the silly fine which is up to $3000, it’s pretty frustrated, isn’t it?
Furthermore, this intention is to give more control to people. The labour leader sees a bigger role for government in providing family support, but the intention is only to give more control to the people. The control should be appropriate, excessive control would break our collective democracy. It’s not wise for government to give a burdensome control to the civilians for its so-called new parenting policy. Mr John Howard said:“ If you try and say as a matter of law what people’s obligations as a citizen are, you’re getting dangerously regulatory territory.” Mr Latham insists some people need help to be responsible parents. Actually this help is only pressure!
I believe this law would be one of the bad laws! Mark Latham can not be serious. If it takes compulsory teaching to be a parent, then one should not be a parent. And the ones who need the teaching would not attend anyway. Any law not enforceable is not a good law and this would be one of them. I believe that we learned more from our parents about how to treat our children and how to bring them up than we ever would from a lawmaker, a social worker or indeed anyone else. That is a incredibly bad law which would only be written on the paper, because the government could not “ change a law to change behaviour”! Can we accept that bad law in which society is headed? Absolutely not!
Our esteem labour leader Mr Latham said “I believed that all parents should know where their children are at night and they should ensure that they are at school day by ay. Parents should take the responsibility for the behaviour and the education of their children.” In fact not. Children are not in jail under 24 hours’ surveillant by parents. Children are being taught sharing, caring, self-esteem, co-operation and not bullying. Let’s hope these values stick. But if they don’t, it’s not necessarily the fault of parents. That’s government’s fault. The government is to govern all the people in the community within the bad behaviour children. There’s no excuse for the government to shift its own responsibility to the innocent parents. How ridiculous it is that the government punish the parents instead of the direct wrongdoers!
We all respond better to encouragement than threat. To encourage, rather than denounce, must produce a more positive answer in the long term. Just as shamelessly, this useless law would only restricts the parents, giving more stress to the whole community. I believe the government should not interfere the parents.
