Keep your mouth shut
Aug 6, 2004
Applicants for British passports should close their mouths in future when posing for the photograph, according to a new Home Office ruling highlighted in today's British press.
The Passport Service said photos showing the holder with their lips apart would confuse security scanners being phased in to measure facial parameters.
A taut smile would be permitted, reinforcing the stiff upper lip tradition.
The new photo ruling said applicants must show their full face, looking straight at the camera, with a neutral expression and with their mouth closed.
Images measured by facial recognition software as "biometrics" will be introduced into travel documents, with the facial image loaded onto a microchip. |
