The old man stared out at the gloomy storm.
A raindrop came passed one of the loose windows onto his hair.
Another day was passing away, yet he still couldn't find a solution to the orphanage's bankruptcy.
He heard a faint sob of a baby from the frontsteps.
As usual, there was no one there except the baby.
There had not been a baby in the orphange for several years.
"Perhaps this will be a new start," he thought as he picked up the child.
A peice of paper dropped to the ground.
He bent down to pick it up, but it was too late, the paper was wet, and all that was left of the words on it was a black smudge.

"Smudge! What are you wating for? Get out of our way!"
She sighed, and moved to the side.
As long as she remembered, she was Smudge.
Or at least that's how everyone called her except for Papa, the principal of the children's home, who insisted on calling her Blackie.
"What kind of a name is that? A dog?"she thought.
The boys had been playing in the mud, she could see that from their muddy clothes.
She frowned at the muddy footsteps they left on the rusty old mat.

Vermouth
She was falling... An endless fall...
She could feel death as the ground came closer than ever...
The smell of wet cement filled her nostrils...
"So...This is the end..."
For a moment everything went still...
She heard a girl screaming and crying for help...
A hand seized her arm...
"Why did you save me?"
"Is a reason nesessary? I don't know why you would kill someone. But as for saving someone...A logical mind isn't needed, right?"
"Angel...Cool guy...," she murmured.
Gasping, Vermouth woke up. The alarm clock started to buzz. The sun was shining through the window. It was just the start of another day.
